Vibration

Firstly the important features of vibration are the level (measured in terms of the velocity or acceleration) and the frequency at which the vibration occurs; the closer vibration occurs to the natural or resonant frequency of say the building’s structural elements (building damage) or a person’s liver (motion sickness), the greater the effect will be.

In the following sections

  • Environmental vibration affects buildings (BS.7385) or causes disturbance to occupants of the buildings (BS.6472)
  • Occupational vibration causes damage or task impairment to people at work, by hand arm vibration (BS.6842) or whole body vibration (BS.6841 and ISO.2631).
  • instrumentation – selection of the right tool for the job.
